About the Workshop
The Toronto Bedside Swallowing Screening Test (TOR-BSST) is an evidence-based screening tool implemented by Southern Health-Santé Sud as part of the stroke strategy. This screening tool is used to determine patients at risk of dysphagia following a CVA or TIA.
Learning Objectives
- To ensure accuracy and reliability amongst the nurses who will administer the TOR-BSST.
- To determine if oral intake can be safely initiated (including medications) post CVA.
- To determine when to refer to a Speech-language Pathologist for complete dysphagia assessment.
Who Should Attend?
Nursing staff from Medical, Rehab, and Emergency Departments from Acute Care Facilities.
Note to Participants
- Please arrive 15 minutes early for registration.
- Handouts will be provided. If you wish to have a snack or refreshment, please bring one with you.
- Registration is limited, only those registered are able to attend. No registration fee for this session.
- Registration closes (1) week before the workshop.
