First Nations People Eligible to Receive a Third Dose of COVID-19 Vaccine
On October 18, 2021 it was announced that First Nations people who usually reside on reserve are eligible to receive a third dose of an mRNA vaccine at least 6 months after their last dose.
With this addition, it is possible that First Nations community members, health care workers, Traditional Healers or Knowledge Keepers may present to other locations for their third doses.
As with health care workers, no specific identification or proof of residence is required. If a First Nations person presents requesting a third dose and it has been six months since their second dose, the third dose can be administered.
The general guidance would be to administer the same vaccine product as the first two doses in the series, however if an individual requests a different vaccine and it is available, that request can be accommodated.
Leads/Directors (or delegates) review and share accordingly.
