The Indigenous Workforce Partnership Agreement was signed in June 2010 with Indigenous, non-Indigenous organizations, local provincial and federal governments, education/training institutions and unions. The agreement aims to promote and develop initiatives undertaken by the region that encourage and support the development of an Indigenous representative workforce.
The parties to this agreement recognize that Indigenous people are under-represented in the health sector workforce in proportion to their potential labor force numbers. Therefore, the parties agree that specific initiatives are required to prepare and develop the Indigenous workforce and to work together to increase the representation of Indigenous people in all healthcare occupations.
It is envisioned that the Indigenous Workforce Partnership Agreement will help to improve client health, service delivery and economic capacity by bringing to the Indigenous population a greater awareness of the many employment opportunities that are available in health care and ensuring potential employees receive the necessary education and training to compete successfully for health care careers.
